What is Outside General Counsel, Anyway?

Written by Kristin Lausten

Are you tired of paying exorbitant legal fees because a junior associate is required to bill 180-200 hours a month, so they inflate time entries just to make a quota and keep a job?  Maybe you’ve grown tired of paying big-law rates for everyday transactions.  If so, it’s time you considered hiring outside counsel.

Lausten & Co. provides corporate counsel services on demand at a fraction of the cost of either hiring a full-time, general or in-house counsel or relying exclusively on retained law firm counsel. Companies who engage Lausten & Co. fall into two main categories: (1) those without in-house counsel who need regular legal support but do not want to take on the expense of hiring a full-time in-house lawyer, and (2) those with in-house counsel who do not wish to add more full-time resources to their existing in-house staff.  In fact, most of our clients already have a few law firms they use regularly for certain matters, but find those firms too expensive, too slow in response time, or unable to handle day-to-day matters expeditiously due to high volume.

Lausten & Co. serves as outside general counsel for businesses, large and small. Working closely with our clients, we provide efficient, client-centered, and cost-effective consulting on legal issues confronting clients on a daily basis.

Our mission is to understand our client’s current business operations and future goals when acting as outside general counsel, and provide efficient, innovative solutions to our client’s legal issues.  In other words, we want to work with you, not against you.  We put your needs above ours.  And we don’t pass on our business expenses to you.  Stop paying for your attorneys’ fancy offices, high overhead, and shiny shoes and start paying for the legal expertise you need.
